Stripped Marlin Madness!
So once we got there it was just time to untie the boat and push off for a day on the water. We thought since there was plenty of the day boats heading up north to the pacific side we decided that we might head up that way as well. This is a spot that many of the locals take there day trips to, because it is known for producing tons of fish. So as we released all the lures in the water and started to fish, we stated seeing alot of birds feeding up about a mile north so we fished our way up there. Once arriving to the spot where the birds were feeding it was like marlin madness. I got us right up on a nice sized marlin and we got a bait right in front of his nose, and he took it. The reel started screaming, and I think from the co motion of one fish being hooked up we hooked up two more right away.
The best place that you can get your aquarium accessories and tanks is an aquarium shop. They are cheaper than pet shops that sell items for other animals. That’s why they have a much larger range of fish. They have everything from filters, heaters, lights, fish and food! They even stock tanks, stands and plants!
They will let you know all about the bacteria process and what needs to be done to maintain a healthy tank! These hooks guarantees more catch, because of the minute gap, and the reverse point. Return after the tide has changed in direction. This should be enough to loosen the anchor. Wouldn’t they be in the area where the bait fish are? The bass don’t quit eating at this temperature but one thing is for sure, they slow down. As the water temps fall so is the chance that a bass will chase a bait for a meal. This is when you might want to put those big lures away and offer them something small.
So, what kind of lure are you going to use?
Bass Fishing – The Carolina Rig
I had little understanding of the need for the Carolina Rig. Until New fishing situations and conditions I have encountered have shown me the value of this setup. Right off the bat, I can tell you that one value of the Carolina Rig is more action from the bait. It is great for situations where the bass aren’t taking other baits because of weeds and visibility. The difference between the Texas Rig and the Carolina Rig is where the sinker is. In a Texas Rig, the sinker is a slip sinker that rides freely on the line with nothing else between the rod and the bait. In a Carolina Rig, there is a swivel or something else to allow a leader between the weight and the bait.
Both are used with plastic baits. The hook is usually embedded into the body of the plastic, making it virtually weedless. This is what drove me to love plastics, particularly worms. If you are new to this you might want to start with a shorter leader until you get used to casting it. Now tie the leader onto your hook.
Once you have the hooked tied on, run the hook tip through the end of the head of the plastic and push it in about a quarter of an inch.

In fact, some were probably built with the intention that they would be replaced within five or ten years, and not kept going lovingly for decades by well-intentioned descendents of the original owner. Constant maintenance is probably the key concept here, and you will need to do some serious checking out of the boat’s structure before setting out to haul in those prize catches. Apart from the gleaming, grand old dames of yesteryear, contemporary wooden fishing boats are still being built, and you may be surprised at the workmanship and variety available. You may want to have a look at the beautifully crafted boats such as wide-bottomed drift boats, or the graceful curves of a special viking-type rowing-and-fishing boat. Some wooden fishing boat builders specialize in traditional Louisiana marsh pirogues and rowing skiffs, and for these you will even be able to find building plans should you be tempted to make a project out of it! Back to that old lady grandpa used for his outings on the lake: It may be well worth remembering the saying: “Nothing works on an old boat but the owner”. Early childhood dreams of Salmon choked rivers and Bears of every shape and size basking in the sun, their bellys full of fish- and the occasional “slow” fisherman- help to fuel the vision that is Alaska. At least I hope so, because after forty-seven years of talking about it, buying books on it, watching videos and saying “next year”– the time has come for me to make my Alaskan pilgramage.
For one reason or another the trips always got cancelled or put off. Every time I picked up a map of Alaska, I was always amazed at the immense size of our 49th state. With that kind of self-imposed mind set, I just kept putting it off. A friend of mine has a son who will be guiding up there this summer, so it seemed like an ideal time to go. I have been having time trials here in Southern Oregon and anybody that can outrun me over 100 yards has been eliminated as a fishing partner. Unfortunately, if the bear happens to be a “long distance” bear– I’m screwed, because I think both of my current fishing partners are marathoners. Again, not being one to enter a wild country unprepared, I am currently undergoing some slightly painful yet necessary skin grafts with a very fine screen mesh that should do the trick.
